Late Night Music: Nataliya Gudziy

It’s a Bandura, a Ukrainian instrument. She’s Ukrainian, but the song she’s singing is Japanese.

Beautiful instrument, beautiful voice, beautiful song, beautiful woman.

Enjoy!

  3. Chudovo!! Beautiful!! Who is the vocalist? Is she from Ukraine? Are there recordings of hers one can purchase? Was the audience Japanese or Ukrainian or other? Thank you for posting this. BTW Ukrainians have 2 “eyes” also (UkraInIan)- remember the “n” as “nose”, and you shall never forget the 2 “eyes” on either side!
    All the best!

  12. Had to be a Japanese audience.
Ukrainian audience would witness a technician or other highly qualified stage hand crossing the stage behind the singer and recrossing to pick up a grip. Ukrainian audience would have been whispering and talking during performance. Rudeness is part of their tradition.

  13. To Too Taos: That last comment was completely uncalled for and is offensive.
Let go of this bitterness and just enjoy the music buddy.

I think she is absolutely amazing.

  16. Beautiful song, voice, instrument, and woman. The performance was especially moving and significant in the presentaion of two cultures, Ukrainain instrument Bandura and sung by a Chernobyl survivor in the Japanese language in the connection that these two cultures share a terrible nuclear disaster. I hope that someone can send a translation of the words.

  20. What a gorgeous voice – and the bandura has always been one of my fave instruments. It’s hard to play but once you get a sound out of it, you’re entranced for life.

Have found the IMB (Internet Movie Database) that lists info on the movie ‘Spirited Away’ mentioned by another blogger above: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0245429/ and here is the page with info on the soundtrack. It’s available on amazon.com but because the movie came out a while ago, it may not still be available.

  22. Absolutely, fabulous. Nataliya has captured the beauty of the Ukrainian soul. She reminds me of Nina Matvienko in her quest to pass on the chudova muzyka nashoho narodu.
    Chest i slava, Natalu.

  30. Beautiful voice and soul! The message through her words, voice and bandura was amazing at the National Gallery. Is there a way of contacting Nataliya to ask her about singing and talking to a group of high school students who are studying the theme of peace, nuclear disaster and what young women are capable of doing to make a difference? Could someone send me her email or telephone number? I would be very grateful. Thank you.
