Late Night Music: Architecture In Helsinki

My globetrotting offspring wrote and suggested that I check out this band.

I’m so glad he did.

Did He Really Just Say That?

“A small price to pay.”

Y’know, I saw this on Crook & Liars and it made me sick. It literally made me nauseous and it made me want to cry. I thought of all of the parents, and children, and lovers, and friends of all of the countles thousands of human souls who have been lost forever in Iraq, and this drunken asshole sits there on my TeeVee and says that it’s small price to pay for…what? To “stop Al Queda”? To “stabilize the Middle East”? We all came down off of that neocon pipe-dream 3 or 4 years ago, and this is just insulting.

This is the face of our government my friends. This distain for the average American dates back over a quarter of a century to Nixon’s “Southern Strategy” and the “Reagan Revolution”, which transformed the Republican Party from a party of conservative values such as small government and real fiscal responsibilty to the fascistic, authoritarian, religious/fundamentalist crime organization that it is today.

Our problem is not George W. Bush, my friends, our problem in this country is a criminal Republican Party, run by fascists, warmongers and oligarchs, which has a determined policy to turn the American Middle Class into the American Working Poor, and has set itself on a course to destroy our democracy and quite possibly all life on Earth. (Yes, I know, Our Lady Of Concentration Camps would say that I sound like a moonbat, but just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean that they’re not really out get you)

Call Representative Boehner today and let him know what you think of him. I did. It’s fun.

R.I.P. Luciano Pavarotti

I have never been an opera fan, in fact I’ve never even been to the opera. I went to a free concert in Central Park once back in the late ’70′s where Pavarotti performed, but to be honest I was much more interested in seeing how far I could get with the woman I had invited to come with me than in listening to what Pavarotti was doing on stage. Then he began to sing “Nessun Dorma” and it got my attention. This piece of music touches me on a deeper emotional level that any other I have ever heard, no matter who is singing it, but no one does it better than the Maestro.
