The Human Side Of Politics
I saw this video the other morning attached to a post by Eli at FDL about the possiblity of Gore running for President in 2008. I watched the whole thing, and it’s rather lengthy, and found that it moved me in an unexpected way. As I watched it I saw a decent man, a caring, family man, a mensch. There was a warmth and humanity that was revealed in the video that I think the nation’s citizens are longing for in our leaders. We have had little humanity in our government for a long time now and it’s taken a toll on me, certainly, but I believe that it’s also taken an emotional toll on all Americans. We have become a country led by haters and blamers, which I find very sad.
Then today I read this post by Phoenix Woman about what might have been had Gore been President since 2000, and I thought of George Bush’s dead eyes and black soul and it really focused the feelings that Eli’s post had brought up in me. This is what we have been missing, common decency and humanity in our government.
Does Hillary have these qualities? I think not.
O’Bama and Edwards? Maybe.
Kucinich? Yes, no doubt, and I support him wholeheartedly but I am a realist about his chances.
Al Gore? Now this guy is the real deal.
